Pet Safety Tips For The 4th Of July!
For many people, nothing beats lounging in the backyard on the Fourth of July with good friends and family and most of the time that also includes our furry friends. While it may seem like a great idea to reward your pet with scraps from the grill and bring him along to watch fireworks, in reality some festive foods and activities can be potentially hazardous to him.
Never leave alcoholic drinks unattended where pets can reach them.
Do not apply any sunscreen or insect repellent product to your pet that is not labeled specifically for use on animals.
Always keep matches and lighter fluid out of your pets’ reach.
Keep citronella candles, insect coils and tiki torch oil products out of reach.
Never use fireworks around pets!
Loud, crowded fireworks displays are no fun for pets.
It's best to keep pets inside and make sure your house is secure and they cannot escape.
Make sure they have a safe spot to hide in the house and provide some music or tv noise.
Frozen treats such as Kongs or other pet friendly safe toys can be a great distraction.
Make sure your pets have updated tags on their collars and microchip information is up to date in case they do escape.
It's a good idea to exercise your pet early in the day. It will be less busy and it will also tire them out.
Have a safe and great 4th of July!
